A Busy Weekend!

Well, it has been a busy weekend! I almost need a break to recover from it, but that's a good thing, because it's been a fun weekend!

Miss. L and I started our weekend by playing fetch in the park with Max. He wasn't really too sure what he was supposed to do, but he got there eventually, after a little tutoring from Miss. L...

So, Max, I throw the ball, you chase it, bring it back and then we start again, OK?

... and then he killed his ball! So that was the end of that!

Mum. Is my ball supposed to have a dent in it?

Now it's fair to say, that Saturday, did not start too well. Whilst getting my car out of the garage (I had planned on giving the seats etc. a good vacuum in between torrential downpours), I managed to catch the front passenger wing on something in the garage that had shifted, thereby gaining a rather fetching (or not, as the case may be) dent. As you can imagine, I was not a happy camper! Having hurt my car, I decided that rain or no rain, it needed a little TLC so Miss. L and I headed off to the car wash, followed by a trip to Morrison's. I know this is sounding like the best weekend in the history of weekends, is it not, but bear with me, I promise it does improve.

Dr. BD was working in the morning, so I had a think about what we could do once he arrived in the afternoon. Hurrah! Inspiration from the TV! We will go to the cinema to watch Tim Burton's new film (Miss. L and I are Tim Burton fans), Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. I prebooked our tickets online, I simply cannot bear having to stand in a queue to buy my tickets and having to lean over to look at the tiny screen to pick your seats. It's a very petty dislike, I know, but most dislikes are. As it was, we still had to queue for popcorn and drinks (I didn't have room in my bag to smuggle those in too - don't tell me you've never smuggled your own snacks in to a cinema).

Then it was into the screen to find our seats and settle down for the film with Dr. BD's 'large' popcorn (which was a bit pot luck as he had a mixture of sweet and salt and I don't like salt).

I had very little knowledge of this film, other than the trailer, but it looked good and I had high hopes. It's Tim Burton, so it's got to be good, hasn't it? Weird, but good. I wasn't disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Yes it was a little slow to get going, and I did wish I had a cuppa, but it was good slow. The scenery was beautiful and the characters were all really intriguing. For me, the story was told in a way that truly made you feel as though you were being drawn into their strange world (which, of course, is how it should be). I particularly enjoyed Samuel. L. Jackson's character. He had some fabulous one liners! Bottom line for me, is always this (if I've not read the book), 'Did the film leave me wanting to read the book?' answer in this instance, Yes! Yes it did! So for me, this film was brilliant and the girls enjoyed it too, so win, win! I would say, it is a 12a and there were a couple of times that sensitive Miss. L, shed a tear, but she did still enjoy it, just be aware if you're heading off with a sensitive soul.

And today (Sunday)? We headed over to see my parents. The girls love visiting their grandparents, although it's more a case of they enjoy seeing the puppy, Winnie! We've not seen any of them for a good few weeks, and whilst Nan and Grandad hadn't changed, Winnie has calmed down quite a lot and has certainly grown.

I'm a big girl now!
She is now 9 months old and and a little less bouncy! So much so, that Max has decided, that perhaps she isn't so bad after all. After lunch, we took the dogs for a walk and Max even let Winnie play ball with him. She had no idea what she was supposed to do, but she enjoyed running around with Uncle Max.

I need a rest Mum!
I'm sure Max will have something to say about his playtime with Winnie today, but I am just thankful that he is beginning to like her at last. It's taken a long time, but finally we are making progress!

So, that was our weekend...well almost, because when we returned from the dog walk Miss. D decided we had to watch a show that she and her sister had planned earlier in the afternoon. Part of said show, or rather the main part, involved myself and her grandmother drinking some disgusting red concoction that she and her grandfather had made whilst we were out.

This disgusting mixture, which I will reluctantly refer to as a DIY smoothie, was, as you can see bright red and was made up of banana, apple, water, milk, food colouring and wait for it...marmalade! Yes, you did read that right, marmalade. We relented and tried it, and yes it was as disgusting as it looked. It was lumpy and generally, just yuck! Suffice to say, I will not be consuming anything made by the pair of them again!

And now we really have reached the end of our weekend tales. I hope you've had a fun weekend too.

  1. Hi Lisa, some dogs just don't seem to get the hang of playing fetch. With our dogs it usually ends up turning into a game of chase (at least they have fun).... Please don't judge me, but I thought smuggling snacks into the cinema was compulsory! That's why some women's' handbags are soooo large!

You are a braver lady than I, there is no way I would have drank that smoothie. Food colouring and marmalade? Maybe a smoothie recipe book might make a good Christmas present idea?

Thank you for linking up with the #MMBC.

    1. I think I need a bigger handbag for cinema visits. Do you think they'd be suspicious if I took a suitcase in?

Oh and next week I will make sure to link the correct URL :-)

  2. Wow, sounds like you had a fun packed weekend! Haha @ the snack smuggling! Well it is imperative to have some munchies when watching a good film :)

The smoothie definitely doesn't sound for the faint hearted, that's for sure. I think I may of gagged a little!

Thanks so much for joining in with #MMBC. Hope to see you next week x
