Hello Weekend
I know the post title is a little bit late, but I have had a super, wonderful, busy and fun weekend; so much so, that I haven't had time to sit down and write about it, which should probably be considered a good thing.
It all began with a text from Dr. BD on Thursday night, asking if he could come over the following evening. He was obviously pining for me, who wouldn't? Not really, I don't think he would ever actually pine for me, but of course we miss seeing one another during the week so the weekends are very special. As it turned out I was child free for a wee while this weekend so, Dr. BD and I decided to have a 'proper' date.
We, or rather, I decided that I was going to take Dr.BD out for dinner, he suggested we try my local pub. Now it has to be said this particular pub is somewhat hit and miss so far as service etc. goes, so I wasn't entirely sure if this was going to work out. As it happens, it was ridiculously busy when we arrived and we decided we would just start off with a drink, then see if any tables became available.
As neither of us was driving, we could both have a drink. Yay! That doesn't happen very often. I treated myself to a rather sweet and easy to drink Rose (sorry folks, no idea how to get the accent over that 'e', but you know what I mean) and Dr. BD opted for a pint of Guinness. Sadly, poor Dr. BD had to wait for his Guinness as it had run out and the barrel needed changing. I went and sat down with my wine and he waited at the bar...and waited, and waited and waited quite a bit more.
It took rather a long time, during which I sat down and learnt how much the two families on the table behind me paid in Council Tax each month and how it was more expensive compared with their previous home in London. A little later on I was treated to a boxing demo as one of them demonstrated some moves from a fight he'd recently watched. It was rather distracting, but as they say, there's nought so queer as folk and it does indeed take all sorts to make the world go round. It was also a distraction from the empty glasses stacked on the table I'd sat at. It wasn't through choice, I might add, all the empty tables were indeed, empty because they were covered in uncollected glasses. It was at this point Dr. BC returned with his much needed Guinness and we decided that given the lack of table clearing, we didn't really fancy eating there and after a second drink (my second was a J20, in case you wondered) we headed to the Chinese takeaway.
It was whilst eating, I realised that I was, after one glass of wine, a tad squiffy. Needless to say, around 10pm I was well and truly up for walking the dog. Which is what I did. Max was super happy to be going out, whatever the time. It was rather invigorating, actually. cold, but invigorating.
What a glorious morning we woke up to. It was a chilly day, but the sun was shining and there were just a few fluffy white clouds floating about. All very pretty and bright after the snow we had on Thursday.
We decided as we were child free, a trip to the cinema to see a non PG or 12a film was a rather splendid idea. Now, I realise that most people would have trotted off to watch La La Land, but we went for a good old fashioned gangster film, 'Live By Night'. I am fully aware that none of you will believe me when I say that my decision was not based on the fact that the leading man is Ben Affleck, although that may have helped, just a little bit.
I am so glad we opted for this film. It's only a 15 rating, so yes there is some violence and, shall we say sauciness, but it's not gratuitous or explicit. For me the story was really interesting and although Dr, BD confessed to briefly nodding off, it kept me engaged all the way through. Ben Affleck's character is a self confessed outlaw, not a gangster, The Irish try to get him to work for them to get rid of the Italians and vice versa, but he's having none of it, that is until his inside man stitches him up. I'm not going to tell you anymore, because it will ruin it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it.
Today has been wet and grey, and a day for catching up on the jobs I should have done on Friday and Saturday, although I did manage to get to church too, which is good; and I'm still buzzing a bit from such an exciting fun packed weekend with my super boyfriend. I really am a very lucky girl (yes, I know I've said it before, please just humour me). I hope you have enjoyed a fun weekend too.
