I took the week off last week, I do hope the lack of Wednesday Celebrations didn't ruin your week too much; you're a bright bunch so I'm fairly sure you managed to find something to celebrate anyway. However, here we are back again and ready to celebrate something really special to me, something almost as special as sloths, but not quite.
So without further ado, please get ready to celebrate this weeks very special day...
Manatee Appreciation Day!
I have adored these creatures since visiting Xcaret in Mexico, many years ago now. I had never seen one before in my life (why would I, they don't tend to float around the South East of England much) and I couldn't get over the size of them, nor how gentle they looked with those soft faces and cute little eyes.
I stood there for quite some time just looking at them and I haven't lost that fascination for these huge animals, but much as I love them I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone could possibly have mistaken them for a mermaid.
All I can say is those sailors must have been three sheets to the wind if they thought manatees were mermaids, unless I'm missing something?
Anyway, I'm not really sure how one should celebrate this holiday if, like myself you live in Blighty, but if you do have the good fortune of living near manatees, perhaps you could pop and say hello to one. Have a fabulous day however you celebrate.
