Hello and welcome back to our little celebration corner of the blog. Today is going to be just a little bit different. I had planned to give this segment a miss this week, mainly because I really wasn't too keen on any of the days that are being celebrated. However, in light of recent events, I feel there is something that is important and truly worthy of celebration...
...Kindness and compassion.
It's impossible to ignore the evil that exists within our world and the awful atrocities which are born out of it, but it's important to remember that for every evil person, there are thousands of good people. People who are prepared to step out and help their communities in times of need. People who are so selfless they are willing to put the needs of strangers above their own needs.
Every day, throughout our world, there are people who are doing these things. Often they are just little things that go unnoticed, rarely, they are major events where whole communities come together and support one another. Whatever the reason for the outpouring of kindness, it is to be encouraged and celebrated because these acts of compassion are exactly that will overcome, not only the evil that we co-exist with, but other things such as loneliness and isolation.
So what can you do today and every other day? Well, let me start by saying, it's not rocket science, I've said it before and I'll say it again TALK (Thoughtfully Act with Love and Kindness). If you see a young mum struggling with a buggy up some stairs, offer to help, what's the worst that can happen? If an old lady drops her shopping, help her pick it up. The teenage girl crying and alone at school, go and talk to her. In short, if you see a need, don't just walk by and expect someone else to help. Just the tiniest of actions can have a huge impact on someones life. Kindness costs nothing, let's start spending it a little more freely.
