Well, there I was yesterday afternoon, desperately racking my brains for something to write about, building ideas and what do you know? I end up getting exactly what I wished for, content. Let me go back to the morning though; trust me, none of this will make sense otherwise.
Much as I didn't want to, I had to get up before 8am yesterday. I had a delivery coming and the time slot was 8.30am - 5pm. So, I reluctantly dragged myself out of bed and jumped (more like climbed slowly) into the shower in a vague attempt at waking myself up. It seemed to work, well sort of. I then had a dither about what I would be doing that day and did I need to put my contact lens in. I decided the contact lens would be needed as I was going to be on the laptop working whilst waiting for the delivery man to arrive. And bonus! That little lens went in like a dream.
I settled down for the long wait with a cuppa and my laptop and set about brainstorming some ideas for future posts, whilst having a bit of a natter on Twitter; because it would be rude not to, and having a good old read of some really helpful posts from some super wise bloggers. It's always good to learn from others and I am always impressed by how happy well established and more experienced bloggers are to impart their knowledge upon those of us new to the game. Bloggers really are fabulous people.
Anyway, I learnt a lot from my reading yesterday, and I got a post written and scheduled. I was on a roll, but my poor eyes were tired and since I hadn't bothered with make-up, I treated them to a good old rub.
I thought nothing of it, until I tried to get my lens out and...nothing. Could I get it out? No, I could not. Could I even find the darned thing? No, I could not. Then I remembered the fateful eye rub. I'd dislodged it, obviously. So there I am in front of the mirror, head back, pulling my eyelid up as best I could trying to spot the flipping lens. Forty five minutes later, I still had no lens, but I did have a lovely sore red eye.
I've never lost a lens before, so I called the lovely Craig at NHS 111. I explained I was an idiot and that I was now, quite frankly, beginning to doubt I'd even put a lens in and apparently, it happens all the time. Who would have thought, other people lose contact lenses too. I was fully expecting him to say, leave it until the morning then call your optician and get it checked. I was not expecting him to say, you need to go to A&E within the next four hours.
I then had a mad panic, trying to get hold of the girls dad to look after them, and trying to get hold of someone to drive me to the hospital. Long story short, I managed to sort both out fairly quickly and was soon sat in A&E feeling like a proper numpty.
Thankfully it wasn't too busy and the two hour wait time was more like an hour and a half. An hour and a half for me to worry whether I had, or had not, put a lens in. Surely I had though, I remember it going in super easily.
I saw a lovely Doctor, she was very understanding, particularly when I explained that because of my other health issues I couldn't be 100% certain that I had put the lens in that morning. Seriously, depression is an absolute pig for messing with your memory. She spent ages pulling my eye lid up and rolling it to have a good thorough check. I had dye in my eye to check for scratches and the lens, and lights shone in to it. Guess what the verdict was? No lens!
It is official, I am a total numpty! I have also totally lost Sunday morning. I clearly remember getting out of bed, but the whole bathroom thing I remember is Saturday morning. I'll be honest, I find that more disturbing than anything else. Oh and this morning, my eye is still very red and feeling just a little bit bruised and sore. I think it's fair to say, I won't be using lenses for a good few days.
Oh dear! How did you manage to read so much without your lens, that couldn't have helped your eye either. I hope it heals up quickly. xx
ReplyDeleteHonestly Anne, this sort of thing is typical of me. I'm a walking disaster!
DeleteOh goodness what an ordeal, hope you feel better today, on the brighter side at lease your content, lol X #mmbc
ReplyDeleteWell that was my thinking too, but I cannot begin to tell you how sore my eye is today x
ReplyDeleteOh my! Bless you! What an ordeal! I hope your eye feels better soon x
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I deserve sympathy, more a slap for being such a numpty, but yes the eye hurts x
DeleteI don't wear lens, but I'm pretty sure I'd manage to do this. Groundhog day. I used to worry about leaving the iron on, until a friend told me she always unplugged her iron and swung the plug around in a full circle, so that she would remember. At that moment, I decided it was probably for the best that I just gave up ironing.#MMBC
ReplyDeleteI used to worry about the iron being plugged in, would never have thought of doing that though. I think I prefer your solution x
DeleteOh dear. I think I read a story recently who managed to lose about 27 lenses in their eye over the course of many many years. Eventually this person went to the doctor complaining that their eyes were always aching. The hospital eventually dug out 27 or so lenses. It was horrific. You did the right thing going to the hospital. At least now you can sleep easy. Pen x #TriumphantTales
ReplyDeleteWell that is true. I saw that story too. I'm surprised she could even see!
ReplyDeleteOh no, it is easily done and always best to be on the safe side, glad things that all was well in the end #humpdaylinky
ReplyDeleteI haven't dared put another lens in yet. That said today is the first day my eye hasn't actually hurt x
DeleteOh no what a nightmare! I can totally relate to getting into a mad panic when this sort of thing happens. I think it's good that you got it checked out because what if it had still been in there somewhere???! Thanks for linking up to #coolmumclub x
ReplyDeleteYes it definitely needed to be checked out, but I am still a flipping numpty!
DeleteOMG, that must have been quite a scare! But glad you got it sorted and hope the eye heals quickly.
ReplyDeleteNot a numpty love, just mummy brain coupled with serious lack of sleep! It happens to the best of us:)
#ThursdayTeam
I now leave the little disposable container on the side in my bathroom so I know if I put a lens in x
DeleteOh no!!! This is why I'm a bit apprehensive about contacts as i'm such a forgetful shit that no doubt i'll be doing a "you" every week hahaha!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this with us at #TriumphantTales. I hope to see you back next week!
Fear not. I now have a fail safe way of knowing if I have a lens in or not x
DeleteOh my gosh! I've never done contacts but I read so many weird stories about them that frankly I'm afraid to try. I've worn glasses my whole life, so they are just a part of my routine, and my face! I can't imagine how it must feel to be unsure of your memory so often. I'm glad to hear you didn't have any serious issues with your eye.

Honestly Jess, I am such a numpty it's unbelievable. I have a system in place now though, so it doesn't happen again x
DeleteOh no!! I wear lenses and I'm often worrying that I might lose one somewhere :O Thanks for linking up, hope you are having a better week #BloggersBests
ReplyDeleteI had no idea contact lenses could be so troublesome - I sometimes sleep in mine which I'm guessing is a big no no?! #bloggersbest
ReplyDeleteOh no poor you! I do this with my contact lenses all the time, I accidentally sleep in them, rub my eyes and move them, I am the worst! Glad you got it all sorted. Thanks so much for linking this up with #thursdayteam
