Something for Tomorrow


As you all know, I have become just a wee bit passionate about all things Mental Health. I make no apologies, whatsoever. Let's face it, whether your mental health is good, or bad, we all have it and we need to take care of it, by looking after ourselves and those around us. Yep, that's right, we have a responsibility to look after those around us too. The problem is, we all lead such busy lives that we neglect to care for ourselves sometimes, let alone those around us.


Those of you who know me well, know that I am a sociable little creature. I love chatting and laughing with people, I simply hate being alone, at least for prolonged periods. I mean, we all need some alone time, and given I'm an only child I probably need it a wee bit more than I care to admit. However, if you spend a lot of time on your own it can feel as though you have been forgotten, and that can lead to loneliness, which can lead to depression. Trust me, I'm speaking from experience. We all need some level of human interaction.

So with that in mind, and whilst looking for tomorrow's special day, I stumbled across another very special day. However, this one is so special, (at least, in my humble opinion) that I wanted to give you plenty of notice so you can do something today for tomorrow, if that makes sense. Let me expand, tomorrow is Send a Card to a Friend Day.


How exciting is that? Who doesn't like to receive a card or letter? It's nice to know someone is thinking about you, especially if it's unexpected. For someone who may be feeling isolated though, a card or letter could mean a whole lot more. Just knowing they're not forgotten could be the difference between it being a good day, or not. You don't need to write an entire novel. Maybe just one or two well thought out lines, something that says, I'm thinking of you and I care.

Last week we had Time to Talk, now I'm encouraging you to 'think'. Think about those friends or acquaintances you've maybe not seen for a while. Of those people are there any you know of who may, or do suffer with a mental health illness, or any illness come to that, which means they can't or don't get out and about? We need to be talking to one another, but we also need to think and look after one another. The chances are that a friend who is suffering won't reach out to you, maybe they don't know how to, maybe they feel like they'd be causing trouble for you, maybe they feel like a burden. Today in readiness for tomorrow, reach out to them. Let them know you care, let them know you are thinking of them, send them a card.

You know, if you get to it now, you can get it in the post for delivery tomorrow, but even if you do this little thing over the next few days, that's OK.


Tomorrow is officially 'Send a Card to a Friend Day,' but that doesn't mean you only have to do it tomorrow, you can show a friend you're thinking of them any day you choose. I just wanted to let you all know how much such a small gesture can mean. Let's look after one another.

  2. Lovely idea I've not heard of this before. I have lots of pen pals and we all love getting our happy mail. There's something very special about knowing someone has sat there and thought about you enough to pen something to you. X
