My own teen, Miss D has just set out with two of her friends who stayed over last night. It's fair to say I am now feeling a wee bit nervous for her, not helped by watching BBC Breakfast and seeing GCSE's plastered all over the news! It conjures up the memories of my own results, which were a little on the average side, and that's being kind!
Miss D has been an absolute star! She started Year 11 back in July of 2018 (her school moves everyone up a year to allow Year 6's moving up, to have their induction weeks) and from that point in time, she was revising for her exams. For the past year, her bedroom has been a pit, but not a normal teenage pit, with clothes and make up everywhere, no for the past year her floor and bed have been covered in open study books and note pads. This young lady has literally worked her bloody socks off. Not only has she studied at home non stop, but it didn't stop there. In addition to all the private study she was doing, she also attended extra revision lessons after school, daily. In short, I am super proud of her and her dedication to her work. All in all, she sat a total of 22 exams! She didn't make a big thing of it, she just went to school, did her exam and came back to get extra study in for the next one.
When her prom finally arrived, she had well and truly earned her evening and her beautiful dress from the lovely people at The Prom Shop in Colchester. I still can't believe how grown up and beautiful she is and, might I add, I am still (and always will be) very envious of those ridiculously long legs!
So here I am, drinking tea and doing bits and bobs to keep myself occupied whilst I wait to see how she did. One thing's for sure, she couldn't have done anymore.
Update: She's done herself proud. I'm not publishing her grades here because that is her business, but it's fair to say she got out what she put in and she has the grades she needs to carry on her education in the subjects she wants.

well done to your daughter sounds like you have good reason to be proud of her I hope my children when they get to her age work as hard as she has wishing her all the luck for her future
ReplyDeleteMany thanks. I hope her younger sister will work as hard too!
DeleteHi Lisa, a big congratulations to your daughter for getting the grades she wanted. The amount of exams children are expected to take is bonkers (it's the same here), but at least Miss D knuckled down and got on with it and it paid off. Hopefully that in itself will be another lesson learned!

It's crazy how much pressure is on them with exams, but yes, it is definitely a lesson in how hard work pays off x
DeleteWe are waiting my teens GCSE results to arrive by post because we moved house. lol
ReplyDeleteI am so pleased your girl got the grades she needed. It certainly sounds like she worked hard for them. x
Good luck with the results Kim, it's so scary even as a parent. Hope you're settled into the new home x
DeleteGreat to hear. This is such an exctiing time. #Stayclassymama
ReplyDeleteThank you Lydia. Onwards and upwards now, as the saying goes x
DeleteCongratulations to everyone on the exam results, I am glad that we no longer have to go through these anxious times as my boys are now grown and all have good careers#pocolo@_karendennis
ReplyDeleteHi Karen, you're so lucky! I have A Levels and another set of GCSE's to go yet, then more A Levels.
DeleteI like how you kept her grades private. My son was disappointed with his grades two years ago and they did not reflect how bright he is at all as he was ill and had so much time off in his final year plus he has difficulties writing and of course the exams are written. He is very intelligent and articulate but more strong verbally than in writing. I did not realise that my excellent educational record has daunted him most of his life sadly. He is now trying to get a job after spending 2 years with me in France. He is back in UK so I am away from him and trusting my brother to help him start his real adulting - I am proud of his values as he is caring and sensitive and if ever we needed those things, now is the time. Well done to your daughter and to you who got her to this place! My Mum went to the hairdressers when I got my A-Level results not able to stand the nerves! #PoCoLo
ReplyDeleteHi Kate. It must be very tough having your son in a different country, but at least he is with your brother who will take good care of him. Dealing with exam results is so difficult, it's only as we get older and have a few jobs under our belts, we realise that our experience is worth more.
DeleteYes my o level results were posted to me, only the eldest of the boys went to school to collect his, the next one had them posted as we were on holiday and the youngest two didn't do gcse's as we lived abroad
ReplyDeleteI can't decide what's better, collecting your results or sitting by the letter box.
DeleteCongratulations to Miss D for getting the results she needed and I wish her well with the next steps in her life. Thanks for linking up with #stayclassymama
ReplyDeleteThank you Laura, always great to find a new linky x
