GCSE Results Day

Well it's finally here, the big day. The day that teens across the country have been anxiously awaiting, or dreading, or attempting to ignore at all costs in the vague hope it won't arrive. Whatever, the long wait is over and the results of all those exams is finally over. Up and down the country 16 year olds have miraculously prised themselves out of their much loved beds and are school bound. I'll be honest, this is all a wee bit alien to me, our 'O' Level and CSE results (yes I am that old) were posted to us, there was none of this going to school during the holidays. In hind sight, I would have preferred going to collect them rather than sitting, worrying and looking out for the postman, but that's all in the past. Today it's off to school and it's time for envelopes to be opened, and futures to begin.

My own teen, Miss D has just set out with two of her friends who stayed over last night. It's fair to say I am now feeling a wee bit nervous for her, not helped by watching BBC Breakfast and seeing GCSE's plastered all over the news! It conjures up the memories of my own results, which were a little on the average side, and that's being kind!

Miss D has been an absolute star! She started Year 11 back in July of 2018 (her school moves everyone up a year to allow Year 6's moving up, to have their induction weeks) and from that point in time, she was revising for her exams. For the past year, her bedroom has been a pit, but not a normal teenage pit, with clothes and make up everywhere, no for the past year her floor and bed have been covered in open study books and note pads. This young lady has literally worked her bloody socks off. Not only has she studied at home non stop, but it didn't stop there. In addition to all the private study she was doing, she also attended extra revision lessons after school, daily. In short, I am super proud of her and her dedication to her work. All in all, she sat a total of 22 exams! She didn't make a big thing of it, she just went to school, did her exam and came back to get extra study in for the next one.

When her prom finally arrived, she had well and truly earned her evening and her beautiful dress from the lovely people at The Prom Shop in Colchester. I still can't believe how grown up and beautiful she is and, might I add, I am still (and always will be) very envious of those ridiculously long legs!

So here I am, drinking tea and doing bits and bobs to keep myself occupied whilst I wait to see how she did. One thing's for sure, she couldn't have done anymore.

Update: She's done herself proud. I'm not publishing her grades here because that is her business, but it's fair to say she got out what she put in and she has the grades she needs to carry on her education in the subjects she wants.
